Father's Day 2010

After everyone headed home from the Kona Kai on Father's Day, we took Jared's boat for one last spin around the Shelter Island basin. We grabbed some sandwiches and anchored off of a sandy beach where we could pick out our favorite house on the Point, then Jared and Parker threw some lures in the water for a little bit. Parker informed us that he was fishing for a swordfish--better luck next time. Afterwards, Parker absolutely crashed out asleep on the bow of the boat, exhausted after such an action- and sun-packed weekend on the water. He looked so funny splayed out flat on the bow. We putted around the docks for a while, now choosing our dream sailboat, before we headed back to the launch ramp, pulled the boat out of the water, and headed home. Parker stayed asleep for the rest of the afternoon/evening, not waking up until we pulled into the driveway at home! You can tell by the look on his sleeping face that he was truly zonked!!

Casting

We went fishing in the Carlsbad lagoon yesterday evening...didn't catch anything, but Parker got some good practice in with casting his new pole!

New Fishing Pole

At 2 years, 4 months old Parker is on his third fishing pole! He got really good at casting his old one, but the reel finally broke and his dad decided that moving up to a new pole made the most sense. So we checked out a few "kid sized" poles, but Parker had his heart absolutely set on the "Bat Man" pole! It came with his own little tackle box, which we filled up with some of his very own lures. We headed out to Lake Morena in the Scripps Ranch area just to check out a new lake and find a place for him to try out some casting. Didn't catch any fish, but he started getting used to his new, longer pole; there is also a paved/unpaved trail around the lake, which is about a 5-mile long bike ride. The weather was beautiful and we got some much-needed exercise.

More Catalina Adventures

We had such a great trip! We're definitely planning on making Catalina trips a very regular occurrence in the future!

Fishing Buddies

Parker got to use his fishing pole a lot in Catalina! He's pretty attached to it now, and likes to take it with him everywhere he goes (even to Grammy and Grandpa's house!). He has learned to release and reel it in all by himself. He was so excited every time Jared reeled in one of his lures that he would shout "Daddy caught a fish!" When we corrected him, and told him it was just a lure, he would shout, "Daddy caught a lure!" We'll probably take Parker to a lake to go fishing soon, and actually put some bait on his hook so that he just might catch something!

First Time Fishing

Saturday was a cold, windy, cloudy day, but the sun finally broke through on Sunday afternoon, so we headed to the harbor for Parker's first fishing trip! Lately, Parker's been asking Jared every night before bedtime about his (Parker's) fishing pole that we keep on his bookcase (and that Mimi and Niki got him before he was born!). He was so excited to finally get a chance to try it out! Jared brought some peas and bread to try to tempt the fishies around the docks...Parker would throw the peas in the water and say, "Come here, fish!" We didn't catch anything, but Parker seemed to have lots of fun! He got to see a lot of little fish swimming around, and spent the last few minutes of the afternoon chasing seagulls around the docks. So, I'd say the first fishing trip was a success!

Once in a Blue Moon

Hmmmmm...what's missing from this post? Oh! I know! Parker. Wow, Mommy and Daddy got to go have some "adult" time today, which means we got to go fishing. Well, Mommy got to go fishing for the first time in a long time, since she's usually gripping onto Parker to make sure he doesn't fling himself overboard everytime we're on the boat. He loves water so much, he just might do it one day. Anyway, here's Paige catching a sand bass in the San Diego harbor. Thanks to Dee and Niki for babysitting for us and giving Paige the opportunity to catch more fish than Jared. Which was easy.
