Sailing Monterey Bay

On our last night in Big Sur, we drove up to Monterey to take a cruise around the Bay on a 47' sailboat. The weather was pretty nice, with a little bit of sun and a little bit of chilly fog; likewise, the sea conditions were pretty nice, with some calm patches mixed in with some bigger swells. There were only two other people on the boat with us (along with the captain), so we got to play around on the boat a little bit--Jared was SO happy to take the helm for a little while, and I had fun bobbing along with the boat up on the bow :) I'd say that Parker went through a roller coaster of emotions while on the boat--he sort of vacillated back and forth between having fun and being nervous! We went out for dinner in Monterey afterwards, which made for a nice way to end our last "real" day of our trip before we headed home.

Sailing in San Diego

We took Lil' P out for a lovely Sunday sail in South San Diego Bay last weekend. We launched her in Chula Vista, which was a new place for us to try out. The wind was just right for a relaxing sail, the water was calm, and Jared rigged up a self-steering system on the tiller that allowed him to sit back and enjoy the sights. We sailed probably around 13 miles or so, around and up the bay to the Coronado Bridge and then back down to Chula Vista. We were out for about five hours, and Parker entertained himself the entire time by having me tie different lures on to his fishing pole and then dragging them behind us and watching them jump around in the water. All in all, it was a great afternoon.

More Sailing Pics

I just couldn't resist posting a couple more Parker pics from our day out sailing last weekend--they're too cute to keep to myself!

Ahoy!

We are the happy, lucky owners of a 1984 Montgomery 15! We used to have a Lido 14, but didn't use it once Parker was born. We felt like it was finally time to move up to something that we felt comfortable sailing in with Parker, and an M15 was always a dream boat of ours. We found just the right one up in Auburn, CA, and drove up there to pick her up a couple of weekends ago. This was our second day out sailing in "Lil' P," an afternoon out on Mission Bay. Parker seems fine with sailing so far, although he really needed a nap on this day, and just couldn't fall asleep down below. He tried out steering a little bit--maybe he'll learn how to drive with a tiller before a steering wheel?? We're hoping to hang on to Lil' P forever, but we just may have to move up to something even bigger some day--something in, I don't know, the 36-foot range perhaps?
